Say: What is the greatest in testimony? Say: Allah is the witness between me and you, and this Qur'an has been revealed to me, so that I may warn you and all whom it reaches. Do you truly testify that there are other gods with Allah? Say: I do not give this testimony. Say: He alone is a God, and indeed I am free of what you associate [with Allah].
(Al-An'am. 19)

The Sovereignty Of Allah Is The Topic Of The Entire Qur’an

The Sovereignty Of Allah Is The Topic Of The Entire Qur'an

In the current scientific era, the principles and logic of science are more important for a man than, acquiescing to Allah, His law, and religion. Man thinks that by exploring science, he has invented many new things and takes it as a symbol of man’s power. While the truth is that scientific principles have been working in this universe since long before his birth. And running this whole system in a wonderful and balanced way. Man is just discovering them, imitating them according to his strength, and making small inventions. Then use this small amount of his knowledge and logic against Allah’s will. ALLAH who created man and blessed him with such abilities. How rebellious and disruptive a man is!  Allah is one and his knowledge is wholeness. The whole universe belongs to Him. The sovereignty of Allah is the topic of the entire Qur’an. It is a man who is ignorant.

"Your Lord creates what He wills and He likes (whom He wills).
There is no authority for those people,
Exalted is ALLAH and high above what they associated with HIM.

(Al-Qasas 68)

Summary:

All authority belongs to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. The man, whom Allah SWT has given the best grade among His creations and has called “Ashraf al-Mukhluqat”, has no power. We have concluded that we got this knowledge from the Quran. And for more research, again, the solution is Qur’an. Because it is the speech of our Lord, who is the most knowledgeable and wise.

It is important for us to know that this verse is as clear and strong as it looks, or there is a case in which even a small amount of authority can be felt by man. It is also important to know how many more places and angles this matter has been mentioned in the Qur’an. And what is the depth and clarity of those verses?

What I realized:

When I started reading the Qur’an from this point of view to a surprising extent, I felt that the sovereignty of Allah is the topic of the entire Quran. The whole book is to make us recognize our Master and His grip over us. And also tell us why is He worthy of worship. Each word of the Quran describes that all authority belongs to Him. Somewhere hidden and somewhere so open and huge signs are described indicating the greatness of Allah SWT. How can a human have any control in front of such a Supreme Being and dominion?

Then why do we have a misconception about holding some authority? And we think that we are masters of our lives? The entire Qur’an seems to explain to me that everything is possible only by Allah’s will. The verses which were narrating the laws and stories of the previous people had the same meaning and explanation that there is no power but Allah. No matter if someone is a great king or a prophet. The jurisdiction belongs to Allah alone.

Touched by His Love:

As I mentioned earlier, I felt each verse and sign mentioned in the Quran giving an endorsement of the verse mentioned above. Allah is the only Master, sustainer, and provider. A Man is a servant and slave of ALLAH SWT dependent on Him in every single matter of his life.

While reading Quran I was so overwhelmed by realizing the vulnerability of man. But despite the fact that a man himself is not an admirable thing, it is also strongly felt how much Allah SWT has loved us. Everything is being done by Him, yet He is most appreciative and loving. He has made kindness obligatory upon Himself and he continues to bestow it. And man feels that he deserves these blessings on the basis of his hard work and knowledge.

The sovereignty of Allah is the topic of entire Quran:

It was difficult to extract only a few verses from the Qur’an to explain what is stated in verse 68 of Surah al-Qasas. Only with the help of Allah, I tried my best to separate some such verses for you. Which leaves a deep impression of Allah’s absolute power and authority. Instead of writing only the numbers and references of these verses, I would like to narrate those verses to you so that the readers can feel the same way as I felt while writing this article.

Hidden Signs:

  • Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is ALLAH, Lord of the worlds.
    (Al-A’raf – part verse 54)
  • Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of the grain and date seeds. He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living. This is Allah, so how you are deluded?
    (Al-Anam – 95)

Owner of the unseen:

  • All praise to Allah! But most of them [people] do not know (even this obvious fact.
    (Al-Nahal – part verse 75)
  • Say: I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allah wills, and if I knew the unseen, I could have obtained many good things and no harm would have touched me. And I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to those who believe.
    (Al-A’raf-188)

Difference between ability and authority:

  • All authority to govern rests only with Allah. He has commanded that you serve none but Him. This is the Right Way of life, though most people are altogether unaware.
(Yusuf – Part of verse 40)
  • Have they not looked at the birds, they are held under control in the middle of the sky, where no one is holding them (from falling) except Allah? Surely in it are signs for those who believe. (Al-Nahl – 79)

The destiny writer:

  • Don’t you know that to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and [that] you have not besides ALLAH any protector or any helper.
    (Al-Baqarah-107)
  • Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [ in the form of] drowsiness on one group of you, and the other group to whom all the importance was of their own self, thinking of ALLAH other than the truth –  began to say, do we have any authority in this matter?

Say, that all authority belongs to Allah. They hide in their hearts what they cannot reveal to you.

They say, that if we had any authority in this matter, we would not have been killed here.

Say: Even if you were in your homes, those who were destined to be killed would certainly have gone out to their killing places. And this happened so that Allah may test what is in your chest and cleanse the doubts in your hearts, and Allah knows the secrets of the chests.
    (Ale-Imran-154)

Al-Mudabir; the One who Arranges for all:

  • He arranges [each] matter from the heavens to the earth, then in one day, which according to your count is a thousand years, that matter goes up to Him.
    (Al-Sajdah-5)
  • Thus did we plan for Joseph. He could not keep his brother within the law of this king except that ALLAH willed. We raised the degrees whom we will and over every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing.
    (Yusuf – Part verse 76)
  • Isn’t Allah the greatest ruler of all rulers?
    (Al-Teen-8)

ALLAH is worthy of trust:

  • Whatever trouble befalls your souls on earth, it is (written) in the Book before We create it. Indeed, it is very easy for Allah, so that you do not grieve over what goes away (from your hand), and you do not feel proud of what He bestows upon you, and Allah does not like anyone proud or arrogant.
    (Al-Hadid-23) (Al-Hadid-22)
  • And undoubtedly He is the one who makes one laugh and cry. And undoubtedly He is the one who causes death and gives life.
    (Al-Najm-43, 44)

Confidence is a scam:

  • Indeed, We tested them as We tested the gardeners. When they swore to cut its fruits in the morning. And they were not making an exception[saying if ALLAH wills]. So a wandering (affliction) from your Lord came upon it (the Garden), while they were sleeping.
    (Al-Qalam – 17, 18, 19)
  • He has complete authority over His servants and He is the most wise and knowledgeable.
    (Al-An’am-18)

There is no power but Allah:

  • Certainly, those people disbelieved who said that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary.

Say (O Prophet): Then who has authority before Allah, if Allah intends to destroy Christ, the son of Mary or his mother or everyone on the earth? And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them. He creates whatever He wills, and Allah has control over everything.
    (Al-Maida – 17)
  • Then they [His servants] are returned to Allah, who is their true Lord. Be aware! That He has all the authority to make decisions. And He is the swiftest of accountants.
    (Al-Anam-62)

Master of Time:

  • Indeed, the knowledge of the Day of Judgment is with Allah [alone], and He sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs of mothers, and no one knows what he will do tomorrow, and no one knows in what land he will die. Indeed, Allah is all-knowing and informed.
    (Al-Luqman-34)
  • And [all] matters are returned to Allah.
    (Fatir – Part verse 4)

All the kingdom belongs to Him:

  • Indeed, I have relied upon Allah, who is my Lord and your Lord. There is no creature that moves (on the earth) that He does not hold it by the forehead. Indeed, my Lord is on the Path [that is] straight.
    (Al-Hood-56)
  •  And never say about anything, surely I am going to do it tomorrow. But [adding] “if Allah wills”. And when you forget, remember your Lord and say: I hope that my Lord will guide me in this matter to something closer to right conduct.
    (Al-Kahaf-23 24)

Maker and turner of hearts:

  • And you do not [able to] will, except that Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is Ever-Knowing and All-Wise.
    (Al-Dahr – Part of verse 30)
  • And you are not the ones to cause failure [to Allah] in the earth, and there is no benefactor or helper for you except Allah.
    (Al-Shoora – 31)

Allah is the true king:

  • Have you taken oaths from Us until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you.(AL-Qalam – 39)
  • And indeed, to Us belongs thehereafter and the world.(Al-lail-13)

Conclusion:

The verses that I have mentioned for you in this article have been explained in more than one place in the Qur’an. Out of those similar verses, I selected only one of each angle for you. So that you can have a glimpse of ALLAH’s grip on man. There are many verses of the Qur’an in the same context in which the control of Allah SWT on man is seen to be very deep and strong.

On the other hand, verses of the Quran are also there, holding man accountable for his deeds. And telling us that, there will be a matter of punishment and reward based on man’s actions.

When Allah SWT is the owner of even our desire, then why is there punishment and reward for wanting something good or bad? Why are we responsible for our thoughts and actions? We will start answering these questions and many similar questions in the next article. IN SHA ALLAH!
